The Story

Time Gate is one of the most ambitious pieces ever produced inside the Art Walk.

Unlike most murals, it was not painted on an existing wall. The artist was invited to design the structure itself, and Holistika's team built it in the jungle before the painting began.

Production

Produced as a structure

Time Gate was not painted on an existing wall. The artist was invited to design the wall itself, and Holistika's team built the structure in the jungle before the painting began.

This made the piece a collaboration between artist, producers, builders and place. The wall took around a month to build, and the mural took more than thirty days to paint.

Deterioration

What time did to the wall

Today, Time Gate is partially deteriorated. Humidity, structure, weather and years in the jungle changed the surface.

But the deterioration is not only damage. It is part of the story. A mural about time became a mural touched by time.

What to notice today
  • The placement of the mural in relation to the path.
  • The light at the time of day you arrive.
  • The textures of wood, plaster, jungle around it.
